Brown Rat

Head & body length: 200-270mm

Tail length: 160-230mm

Weight: 300-500g

Fur shaggy grey-brown above, pale grey below but variable. Tail shorter and thicker than Ship Rat, dark above, pale beneath. Eyes and ears smaller than Ship Rat.

Habitat: Prefers areas with dense cover with close proximity to water.

Mainly nocturnal but diurnal in disturbed situations. Peak activity at dusk and around 0300hrs until dawn.
