Common Dormouse

Fur soft and dense, upper parts and tail uniform orange-brown, underside pale buff with pure white on throat. Juveniles greyer.

Habitat: Deciduous woodland with well-developed shrub layer, Overgrown hedgerows, Scrub and Plantation where the shrub layer is suitable. Species diversity and low shading are key habitat needs.

Strictly nocturnal, young may be active close to natal nest. Active from soon after dusk to 0300-0400 hrs. Becomes torpid in summer if food short. Hibernates in woven nests usually on ground surface.
